On The Road

Another Road

My account of our sojourn to Rome and Florence is recorded in the separate chronicles of my time away. From April 2007 onwards, I will be scribing solely over there (although travel pics will continue to be deposited in the photo gallery).

It’s been great posting here since first leaving home for Vienna back on 31 August 2006 and subsequently the last crazy 7 months. Thanks for everything.

Stay tuned still of course for the further, continuing adventures of Amy on the road herein.

Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day

Therefore you can’t see Rome in one day, because the never-ending lines will take a large portion of your time.

After the two unsuccessful attempts, we decided to brave the line on the only Sunday of the month that the Musei Vaticani is open and entrance is free.

It could have been quicker than two hours if we could convery our desire to have breakfast at 7.30am instead of 8am to our bed & breakfast host, Biancone. She doesn’t speak English and we have pathetic Italian, only fingers work here - sometimes.

Finally we arrived at the door after being in a 1km line with thousands of people. I could not imagine the situation in summer, the peak travel season for probably the most visited city in the world!

Milan : Trying To Blend In

dsc_1363.jpg
I succumbed to Milan’s style. Whether or not the sun is out, sunglasses are always on. Fast-paced, wealthy and extremely fashionable, it is accurate to its description. Beautiful things are not outdoors in its architecture, sculptures or carvings, they reside indoors behind doors. Costume jewelry, designer bags of every model and colour and shoes, sometimes my heart skips a beat. Everything is lovely and in vogue.

Thankfully in midst of the endless choices, my shopping needs break down. Not knowing where to start and what to buy, I chose not to shop. There’s just no end to it. But I couldn’t be trotting around town without a pair of sunglasses, looking like a plain Jane who had just came out from the farm. With my new Ray-bans, I feel Milanese.
